Cathy Strachan, HR Manager, L&D, MBDA UK
Cathy has worked for MBDA for just under 12 years, having previously worked for Barclays and Santander. She has an MSc in Organisational Psychology and is a member of the British Psychological Society. She has over 20 years’ experience working in early careers, talent, and learning and development.
Cathy was part of one of the first Trailblazer groups to develop a masters level qualification (in Systems Engineering) and she sits on the Local Enterprise Partnership Skills and Employment advisory board in Hertfordshire – where MBDA has an established presence. She is also a business representative on the Hertfordshire University Degree Apprenticeship advisory board, supporting the development of degree apprenticeships at the local university.
She is responsible for all learning and development activities for MBDA in the UK – a defence engineering company. This includes responsibility for the Early Careers programmes, and apprenticeships for the wider employee population. Whilst apprenticeships and graduate programmes have been a key part of the MBDA people strategy for decades, the introduction of the apprentice levy has enabled the organisation to review and refresh the way that it develops new recruits at the early careers stage. The award-winning apprenticeship and graduate programmes currently have around 250 members and demonstrate MBDA’s commitment as a member of the 5% Club to earning and learning. Apprenticeships for existing employees have started in small numbers and will continue to expand in the coming years as the company further develops its approach to using the Levy for upskilling and re-skilling.
Cathy leads a small team of advisors who are all passionate about developing the company’s employees at all stages of their careers.
