Helen Cooke, Organisation Development Consultant, CIPD
After graduating in English Literature, Helen spent several years teaching English as a Foreign Language in Italy. On returning to the UK, she undertook a qualification in Human Resource Management and took up her first role as a Personnel Officer. She subsequently built a career in generalist HR in the NHS, gaining wide experience in employee relations, workforce planning, and recruitment and retention. She has built high-performing teams and introduced innovation in employee resourcing, workforce planning and management training, which led to savings of over £2 million. She has also introduced successful programmes on employee health and wellbeing, staff reward and recognition, and equality and diversity at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). Most recently, she has led the development of Our Always Values. These areas of practice have now coalesced into a formal function of Organisation Development at GOSH, which is currently closely involved in organisational redesign. Helen’s organisation development practice emphasises the link between the experience of staff at work and the quality of experience for patients and families.
