Dr Sharon Varney – Director, Space for Learning Ltd and Director, The Henley Forum
Dr Sharon Varney is a specialist in developing organisations and people. She works at a strategic level, helping to create more effective organisations, and engages at a very human level, supporting people to manage personal change and transition.
Sharon developed her cross-sector OD expertise working in large, global organisations. She was Group Head of Learning and Communications for a global engineering and construction company in offshore oil and gas. Previously, she was Vice President for international learning and development at a US bank. Sharon now runs her own organisational consulting practice – space for learning – where she employs her cross-sector expertise to support leaders within private, public and not-for-profit organisations. That may involve working with them to create a compelling people strategy; to develop internal OD capability; to re-design organisations; or to develop productive and effective leadership communities.
Since 2015, Sharon has led the Henley Forum at Henley Business School; a centre dedicated to developing dynamic organisations through research and development. Her award-winning doctoral research explored the complex dynamics of organisational change and the role of change leaders within it. Sharon also conducts leading-edge OD research with Roffey Park and the Institute for Employment Studies and has published reports on organisation design and development, learning, trust and employee engagement.
