Marianthy Riga

Lead Workforce Data Analyst, University of Manchester

I have a 20-year career in data analysis, in organisations spanning the supply chain, finance, risk and Higher Education sectors.

With an education background in Psychology and Neuroscience, in 2021 I joined The University of Manchester to work in shaping the Research Strategy, and most recently joined the strategic Workforce Planning & Talent team as the Lead Workforce Data Analyst. In my role, I am responsible for creating accessible, sustainable data products that promote self-serve and contribute to the organisation’s data literacy and data-based decision-making. I am collaborating with colleagues to shape the data strategy for the institution’s People data that spans employee records, activity and workload, survey data, EDI data, professional development records, skills data and much more. In my team, we are currently developing our skills in data engineering so we can leverage the Microsoft Fabric data-as-a-service functionality, and scenario modelling so we can support our leadership in developing strategic workforce plans. As part of my role, I design and deliver targeted training for data product users, to ensure they feel empowered to access, interact and extract the insights that they need in their everyday job.

I am passionate about democratising data, enabling insights and promoting data literacy. I am currently supporting ground-breaking research into establishing in-silico trials for health device development, as a member of an advisory panel for public and patient involvement and engagement. In order to encourage early involvement with the data professions, I serve at a local school as a governor through the Inspiring Governance platform, and I have been a STEM Ambassador for several years.
