Deeba Ali

I am currently the Head of People Services within the People Directorate. I am responsible for the Payroll, HR, Recruitment, and Business Partnering functions within Historic Environment Scotland. I have 22 years’ experience in numerous complex industries including the Justice and Care sector where I worked through the pandemic and was the most rewarding and challenging environment, I have worked in.

I began my HR career as an HR Administrator and have worked my way to a Head of People and gained a vast amount of experience in employee/industrial relations, change management, wellbeing support and coaching and development.

I have led the team through numerous large projects throughout my career. I have been the lead on the implementation of a completely new pay and grading framework within HES. This has been the most challenging project of my career and implementing such an emotive subject matter for our people has had its rewards as well as creating numerous challenges to overcome. I learned from these projects that my experience in bringing the team together to achieve a common goal has been an asset in the implementation of these projects. I am extremely passionate about DE&I and have used my skills and experience to assist in developing an inclusive culture within various workplaces.
